We're you able to get scholarships?

Given what you know now, what would your advice be to your 15-18 year old self at IMSA that you might not have heeded then - or knew would be important later in life on your career path?
Keith Winstein (IMSA '99)
32:43
Patrick: Probably to be like some of my classmates who were better at self-discipline about going to bed on time!

Do you think going to IMSA helped open more doors for competitive colleges and career choices?
Keith Winstein (IMSA '99)
36:44
For me, yes -- going to MIT wasn't even on my radar before I went to IMSA and met students who had visited there for the summer, and there's no way I would have gotten in without the research project I did at IMSA.

What would be the school hours, or more importantly how long would we have to study?
Maggie DiMarco (IMSA '24)
42:04
Connor: currently, the school day has 8 classes or "mods" and goes from 8-4:30, with about an hour and a half of free time to eat lunch called midday. Additionally, most students have at least one free mod throughout the day.

Not having honors classes (weighted) at IMSA, how did that impact you for college?
Patrick O'Hare
50:08
IMSA is not the typical high school experience. Is there anything you really miss (current students) or missed (alumni) that was part of your local high school?
Deen
50:40
How did you stay balanced with all the academic work.
Dylan Xianto
51:40
What were the tests at IMSA like?
Keith Winstein (IMSA '99)
51:42
I was in a Chicago-based youth orchestra when I was at my home high school, and I had to give it up (or chose to give it up) when I went to IMSA. I do often think about what would have happened if I had stuck with that.

Was IMSA assessments test-based or project-based?
Connor Asher
54:38
How difficult was it to get into IMSA?

Is there an order to the science classes? For instance, if you take physics at your homeschool freshman year, how would that impact the science classes you take at IMSA?
Steve Farkas
01:01:09
What are the dorms at IMSA like?
Maggie DiMarco (IMSA '24)
01:01:33
for the science classes, you are able to test out of certain core courses if you have taken them before

How was the clubs, extracurriculars, sports, etc, different from those from your home high school?
Keith Winstein (IMSA '99)
01:10:22
Yun: DIfferent! IMSA has like 650 students, so it probably won't have (e.g.) the drama program of a school with 2,500 students. But because the clubs are sort of 24/7 and you live there, they can do much more and be more intense.

I understand, thanks!
Maggie DiMarco (IMSA '24)
01:12:03
agreed! overall, you have to take a bit more responsibility and time management, but if you are passionate about an extracurricular or sport and work hard to do it, you can really be successful!

I need to hop off for another meeting, great to speak with you all!
Maggie DiMarco (IMSA '24)

also, there are so many clubs (almost too many for someone like mewith lots of interests :))
