38:37
If you apply as an 8th grader and are not accepted, can you apply again as a 9th grader?

38:50
Yes! Definitely!

39:40
Most students apply as an 8th grader for the experience and the ability to have that 8th grade meeting with an admissions counselor if they did not get in as an 8th grader.

40:34
If I applied as an 8th grader and was not accepted, how can I attend the meeting with the admissions counselor?

41:07
You would receive an email from admissions after the application process concluded

41:30
Is there a difference between the applications for 8th and 9th grade?

41:48
If a student gets admitted during 8th grade, will they wait for a year and start at 10th grae?

41:49
No they are the same.

41:52
My SAT testing is planned in march, Can I still apply?

42:14
No students will skip the 9th grade if admitted as an 8th grader. Students do not have the ability to self-defer a year.

42:34
If SAT score will not be considered, do we still need to take it?

43:17
To ensure our equity standards continue to be met in the application process, due to testing center locations and seating limitations, we will be NOT be considering SAT scores during the selection process. IMSA has always used a holistic approach when reviewing applicants, and test scores were only one of a multitude of factors when selecting the incoming sophomore class. During this year’s admission process, we will continue to focus on grades, teacher evaluations, student activities and interests, and essays when considering applicants. However the SAT will still be required to attend IMSA to ensure the admission requirements are met. In order to enroll at IMSA, scores will have to be submitted prior to starting at IMSA. Applicants are not required to include scores in their application, but there is still a space to include scores and the process for submitting scores will continue to be the same as in previous years. As in previous years, we will also accept a student’s SAT Super Score.

43:35
What if I only have a school email? Could I use my parent's email?

44:14
You can use whatever email you have access too and will check frequently since that's how we will be reaching out about missing items or application updates.

44:48
I have tried to sign up for an account on imsa.force.com I have an error that keeps repeating "Your request cannot be processed at this time."

44:57
it says that i submitted my application even thought i didnt and didnt complete it.

44:58
On the application for the teacher evaluation it says that we can have teachers from last year evaluate for us. So is this possible cause some teachers don’t know us well cause of the online meetings so can a past teacher do a evaluation for me?

45:21
what is optional evaluation form, from whom should I get it?

45:50
If you are having technical difficulties with the app, please reach out to admissions@imsa.edu

46:07
We will talk about the evaluations shortly

46:12
i emailed one of the admissions person at imsa i think his name is Mr. Jarod but i dont know when he will get back to me

46:15
Ok.

46:40
All admissions counselors are working regular business hours, so we will reach out to you as soon as we can.

46:56
Whenever I do a section, it doesn’t save. How can I fix this?

47:07
With my school's hybrid/remote plan, I feel that the connection between my teachers and myself was strongest in 8th grade. For the teacher evaluation, could the required math, science, and English teachers be previous teachers? Or is that only necessary in the optional teacher evaluation?

47:29
IF student is in 8th but takes HS math, is there a place to inter two schools?

47:34
For previous academic years, are MAP tests results should be submitted?

47:45
We do not need MAP test results.

47:53
does a counselor do a evaluation form as well?

48:12
The counselor form indicates where the math class is being taken. Please fill out the information for where the student is currently enrolled full time

48:25
Yes, we will get to the counselor form.

48:41

50:20
We have 200-250 admitted each year depending on how many upperclassmen are enrolled

51:03
We usually have 600-700 applications

51:25
usually 10-20 8th graders are accepted.

51:39
is self taught piano count as an activity?

51:56
It saved, it just wont show up. Remember the checklist page Jackie showed that shows the date completed to check to see if it saved.

51:56
how many 8th graders apply?

52:39
It depends on the year, I'm not sure of the average. I think last year we had about 75.

53:02
alright thank you

53:17
You are frozen

53:51
Hi Sufiya, it looks like Jackie is still moving on my end. If you need to rejoin I can let you in to the waiting room.

55:11

59:39
where do we submit our grades from the last 2.5 years?

59:53
Is there a certain format we need to write the essays in? like an introduction.

01:00:03
Your counselor will upload grade reports with the counselor form

01:00:11
got it thanks!

01:00:24
However you want. We don't want to limit creativity, but there is a word limit.

01:01:46
are we allowed to use spellcheck for the essays?

01:02:03
Yes, we recommend spell check and proofreading your essays.

01:03:29
If we are residents of Illinois and attend school out of state, how soon will we know if our out of state school is acceptable to proceed with application?

01:03:46
You can email admissions and we can get back to you within the week.

01:03:51
admissions@imsa.edu

01:05:03
Can we have a mix of 8th and 9th grade teachers for the evaluations?

01:05:11
For the optional teacher evaluation, are we allowed to submit a recommendation from an extracurricular activity teacher/coach? Or is it only for math, science, and technology?

01:05:14
Yes

01:05:25
How do we request transcripts from 2 different schools (middle & high school), I see only one transcript request section in the evaluation page…..

01:06:00
Can you have 8th and 9th grade do the evaluator?

01:06:07
Your counselor will upload the grades to as part of the counselor form. They should have records form the last 2.5 years

01:06:49
What if the 9th grade teacher does not response to the request?

01:07:04
What if your math and English teacher is the same person?

01:07:22
If we don't have the form, we will reach out to the teacher and let you know that we haven't gotten it so you have the opportunity to send it to a different teacher if possible.

01:07:32
what if you have two English teachers

01:07:33
So If we are In 9th grade can we send the counselor form to a 8th grade counselor?

01:07:51
There are some subject specific questions, so include their names on both so they get both evals

01:08:04
Marietta- you can just pick one

01:08:28
Divit, you should send it to the counselor for this school year.

01:08:38
Ok got it thank you

01:09:13
Should I ask my teachers for their personal or school email?

01:09:14
Can you have teachers from different grade teachers fill out a form? Say one 8th grade teacher and 2 9th grade teachers.

01:09:43
Zachary- I would ask your teacher which email they prefer.

01:09:57
When are applications due?

01:09:57
Arnav- Yes

01:10:03
February 15th

01:10:07
What happen if the teacher does not answer the email?

01:10:07
Ok, thank you!

01:11:23
Will I have a better chance of admission if I apply earlier?

01:12:08
No all applications are evaluated at the same time. However the later you submit it the less time we have to address technical issues, or missing components and we do not accept late applications.

01:13:39
How will you know if you got accepted?

01:13:55
We will send an email and a physical letter in the mail.

01:14:07
It will also be shown in the application portal

01:14:30
Ok, thank you.

01:14:32
when do you know if you got accepted or not?

01:15:29
how many students get accepted per school year?

01:16:06
When applicants are listing their awards/activities/extracurriculars, can we also give a brief overview of our events within those activities?

01:16:07
200-250 depending on the class size of the class that graduated before them.

01:16:13
thank you :)

01:16:53
You can list events, but we recommend listing them out versus paragraph form.

01:17:26
Sounds good. Thank you for the clarification.

01:17:32
I take biology at BYU independent study, How will I send my 1st semester grades through the application?

01:17:45
Can we use last year’s SAT scores?

01:17:58
whats a waver?

01:18:03
when do they need scores by

01:18:07
are events/awards/activities that we include for the supposed application only be for when we were in middle school and up?

01:18:17
Thank you!

01:18:19
what date IMSA needs SAT scores to be sent

01:18:20
There should be a place to request grades from BYU and you can just have them email them to admissions@imsa.edu

01:18:30
If the SAT score was sent last year, should I resend again?

01:18:30
Is it still possible for me to get an interview for my last year's application this year?

01:18:33
Do I need to resend last year’s SAT scores?

01:18:42
Johanna- Yes preferably within the last 2.5 years

01:18:44
Does the SAT have to be sent from the College Board directly or can we send the copy that we have?

01:18:56
Would the current students from IMSA tell us about the activities they were apart of before IMSA and there SAT score if they would like too?

01:18:58
THey should be sent through college board

01:19:12
If you can take the sat in march then how will that work out since applications are due feb

01:19:14
Can you send your grades in before the first semester?

01:19:14
Thank you

01:19:15
He took the SAT in 8th grade? So the middle school should have his score.

01:19:46
Ellen- no, we need the semester grades

01:20:02
How many 8th graders got accepted ?

01:20:03
Okay, thank you

01:20:53
Took the SAT last year through NUMATS. Can I upload a copy of my score?

01:20:59
Should we submit our PSAT also?

01:21:00
is the PSAT sufficient?

01:21:13
In the sat website, if you are in 8th grade, they only save your score for the rest of the year, so how can I apply with that?

01:21:21
We do not accept PSAT scores they do not need to be submitted.

01:21:27
If we retake the SAT multiple times do we use our best score?

01:21:41
Would the current students from IMSA tell us about the activities they were apart of before IMSA and there SAT score if they would like too?

01:21:42
If you took it through NUMATS they still have your scores and can send them to us directly

01:22:17
Thanks, Alexandria.

01:22:42
Is it still possible for me to get an interview for my last year's application this year?

01:23:11
Unfortunately we are not conducting 8th grade interviews anymore. We are only able to do those over the summer.

01:23:14
what if we don’t have any awards for the activities we were apart of?

01:23:56
Then you can leave those sections blank or write that you weren't involved in any activities

01:24:15
how many activities would you like us to have?

01:24:25
I've never heard of IMSA interviews-- how do they tie into the application process, and with covid-19, will IMSA interviews still be upheld?

01:24:35
Different from submitting our SAT score, on the essays, are we allowed to show our PSAT score?

01:24:36
There is no set number of activities we're looking for.

01:25:27
You do not need to submit PSAT scores with your application. We don't consider those for admission.

01:25:49
Could you explain the SAT "waiver" one more time?

01:26:08
does imsa provide students with computers, or do you have to buy one yourself?

01:26:22
IMSA can provide students with loaner computers if needed

01:26:36
Can you include volunteer programs you created? Such as creating a book drive?

01:26:43
for the imsa students in the zoom call - what led them to apply to imsa?

01:26:44
Yes definitely!

01:29:51
So if you get deferred, you are definitely coming to IMSA later? It’s not like you can lose your seat?

01:30:41
Are community services a large part of what IMSA considers in a student?

01:30:59
Yes you definitely have a spot unless. We do ask for a grade update, so we make sure you have kept your grades up but as longas you do that you have a seat.

01:31:21
Yash- It's definitely one of many components we consider!

01:32:46
So getting deferred means you didn’t get in but IMSA thinks you’re a good fit but meed one more year?

01:33:20
Are ELA and fine arts important, or is science and math more important for your application?

01:33:26
for a certain subject,if we have a temporary teacher for one half of the semester and another teacher for the same one, can we not ask both for the application?

01:33:45
What is the ratio of people who apply to people who get accepted? I hope this hasn’t already been asked.

01:34:09
Do you offer Spanish as a class in IMSA?

01:34:16
Hi Grace if you scroll up I you will find the answer

01:34:39
If you do get deferred does that help you for next year

01:34:44
So getting deferred in 8th means you didn’t get in but IMSA thinks you’re a good fit but need one more year?

01:34:46
Yes, but we do not offer Spanish 1 so students already need some basic Spanish in order to take it at IMSA

01:35:00
If you are deferred you have a saved seat for your 10th grade year.

01:35:21
is it gender separated when applying from 8th grade?

01:35:42
How many students are placed into the wait pool?

01:36:18
Thank you so much for this Zoom Meeting.

01:36:35
Good Luck to all students applying.

01:36:47
And usually how many people from the wait pool come to IMSA?

01:37:08

01:37:15

01:37:21
