What do the students do over the weekend?

01:21:00
how do you obtain college credits?

01:23:25
how was 2020 admission status? how many applied and how many admitted? Class 2024 profile. If this will be covered later, pleas ignore my question

01:24:00
Is IMSA still planning to open to out-of-state applicants? If yes, when would that be and what is the impact to in-state applicants?

01:24:34
Are students allowed to have visitors or leave over the weekend?

01:25:15
What is the admission process for out of state students? What are the basic requirements for out of state students?

01:25:57
Students are allowed to leave on the weekends if they'd like to visit home. Otherwise students are able to stay on campus, visit with friends, attend campus events, or go to the mall, movie theater, or whatever other trip they'd like to do. Our Student Ambassadors can talk more about this on their tours!

01:26:40
Unfortunately at this time, we are only open to Illinois residents. The Covid-19 pandemic impacted our plans to accept out of state students. At this time, we do not have a concrete timeline as to when we could accept non-Illinois students.

01:27:24
Some online schools students have used in the past to meet 8th grade science requirement: The American School, Illinois Virtual School, Keystone, or through NorthWestern's CTD

01:28:33
While we don't have dual credit classes to obtain college credits, students can take AP tests to obtain credit for general education college credits. All of our classes are taught at honors, AP, or college level.

01:29:11
Is it a full year of science? My daughter did honors bio 1 at IVS, and is ready for honors bio sem 2 now. Is that needed?

01:30:08
Do the teacher recommendations have to be our current teachers, or can they be past teachers as well?

01:30:09
We only need 50% of the course to be completed at the time of application, but the full course needs to be completed in order to enroll if you are accepted.

01:30:28
Wanted to confirm that SAT scores will not be considered as part of the application review.

01:30:32
We recommend using your current teachers.

01:31:18
How do you sign up for the news letter

01:31:21
SAT scores will not be used as part of the admission materials, but all admitted students will need to have scores on file prior to starting at IMSA.

01:31:39
https://www.imsa.edu/admissions/sign-up-for-admissions-news/

01:31:43
how do we sign up for the VIP tours? or do we just show up

01:31:57
https://www.imsa.edu/admissions/visit-imsa/

01:32:11
How do you sign up for the preview day ?

01:32:20
what is the difference between Preview Day and VIP tours?

01:32:21
Can we tour the entire campus on preview day?

01:32:47
Preview day registration is not open yet, but sign up for the newsletter to get the announcement and access!

01:32:58
We recommend turning on "Speaker View" for the tour portions if you have not already done so!

01:35:00
Preview Day is a longer day and involves more sessions with different departments on campus, including academics, student life, athletics etc. The VIP series will have a similar agenda to the event today. Some VIP tours will be virtual but some will be in person depending on the date of the event. It will be noted in the event description.

01:35:41
Any Admissions event would require registration ahead of time. You can register on our events page using the link Vynnessa posted in the chat above.

01:35:45
What do the breaks look like? Winter break, Spring break, fall break, etc…..

01:38:44
Students have a two week winter break and week long spring break. They also have Extended Weekends throughout the year. During these breaks, students are required to go home and campus closes down for that time. We have buses that take our students to different stops downstate like Peoria, Springfield, Bloomington/Normal etc. and we also transport students to the Aurora Transportation Center if they'd like to take the train into Chicago (BNSF line into Union Station) Otherwise students get picked up by parents or carpools.

01:39:57
Do all students needs to live in RC?

01:40:25
All of our students are required to live on campus.

01:41:31
Yes, all students live in the residence halls. However, many students do go home on weekends.

01:42:47
Do counselors prepare students for college admissions based on a preferred college or just general college preparation?

01:43:51
for the new class, how many students come in after 8th grade and how many came in after 9th? can you provide a generalized percentage for 8th graders/9th graders?

01:43:55
What the ratio of male to female?

01:44:00
Both! When students arrive on campus they are assigned a College and Academic Counselor (CAC). They will keep that CAC all 3 years and they will help them decide on classes, support them academically, and when the time comes, they'll help them apply to college. Based on students' goals and priorities they help find colleges and programs that are the best fit.

01:45:56
Ratio is 50:50 males to females

01:46:33
Does IMSA allow students to have jobs even if they live on campus?

01:47:49
Every year the number of 8th graders admitted changes. We don't have a separate admissions process for 8th grade students, so they are being compared to their 9th grade peers.

01:48:36
Students are not really able to have jobs while on campus. They are typically very busy with school work and extracurriculars so there isn't much extra time for jobs.

01:48:54

01:49:46
The rooms are not coed are they?

01:49:56
No, the rooms are not coed

01:50:01
Are the buildings co-ed?

01:50:02
how was 2020 admission status? how many applied and how many admitted? Class 2024 profile.

01:50:05
Great! Thanks

01:50:05
Wings are also not coed as well

01:50:15
can you show the online schools where students can take the science class

01:50:36
Some online schools students have used in the past to meet 8th grade science requirement: The American School, Illinois Virtual School, Keystone, or through NorthWestern's CTD

01:51:24
What time does the school day start and end?

01:51:48
School will start at 8 am and end by 4:20pm

01:51:55
Some residential halls are coed, but wings are split by gender. Students do not have access to a wing of the opposite gender. Wings are specifically are not coed. There are also gender specific residential halls.

01:52:04
Is there a cafeteria?

01:52:07
How does the school deal with social media? Some students have very active twitter/Tik tok or Youtube accounts

01:52:33
Yes, we have a cafeteria that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

01:53:34
https://sites.imsa.edu/acronym/2017/10/19/renovations-galore-imsa-new-image/ - for cafeteria

01:54:15
is there a deadline to submit SAT score?

01:54:47
SAT just has to be submitted before a student starts at IMSA if admitted.

01:54:55
What time is curfew on school nights vs. Weekend nights?

01:55:12
How is cleaning handled in the individual rooms/dorms and communial areas?

01:55:20
does IMSA offer drivers education classes?

01:55:56
About social media, it’s mostly up to the student to self-regulate. If their grades are severely slipping, the RCs and/or the academic office will talk to the student about it.

01:56:31
Does IMSA have vegetarian food options in cafeteria?

01:56:46
IMSA does offer Driver's Ed through the Principal's Office

01:56:50
if SAT is not required, what are other main factors that IMSA would use to evaluate student’s academic qualifications?

01:57:31
We use the last 2.5 years of grades, teacher evaluations, and outside of the class activities for the application process

01:58:25
IMSA does offer a wide range of food options to meet a variety of dietary restriction/preferences. There are definitely vegetarian options.

01:58:29
When does the school year begin and end?

01:58:40
The year begins in August each year and ends in May

01:59:55
Are there any tests required before submitting the application, like the PSAT test?

02:00:08
Can student participate in off campus activities during weekday evening? 2 weekdays per wk.

02:00:12
About the vegetarian options, we actually just got a new food service provider and the vegetarian options are pretty good. I don’t eat beef or pork and sometimes I don’t feel like any meat, so on those days I’ll usually take a black bean burger, which is pretty good. Yesterday, they also had a really good tofu dish.

02:00:26
No test requirements. We will have a placement test that admitted students will take.

02:00:36
Do you have a swim team?

02:00:38
Could you acommodate gluten allergies and how would that work

02:00:42
We do have Swim!

02:00:49
Do you have badminton?

02:01:07
List of Extracurriculars: https://www.imsa.edu/clubs-and-organizations/Sports Offered at IMSA: https://www.imsa.edu/student-life/athletics/

02:01:08
do u hv taekwondo?

02:01:38
If we have after-school activities that are not from school, can you go off campus on weekdays to attend?

02:01:55
For any food allergies- we have an on-site dietician through our food service provider to work with students with allergies or dietary requirements to make sure they are getting the nutrition and healthy options they need

02:02:08
I am actually a member of swim team! We have boys and girls swim and dive. We have our own pool and it is super fun. We just started our girls swim season this week and it’s a great opportunity to make new friends. It is a fairly big time commitment but it’s very do-able and rewarding.

02:02:36
I know several students who do participate in off-campus activities, so it should be fine especially if you live nearby. Many students go home on weekends, so you can do activities then.

02:02:44
How are behavior issues handled?

02:02:56
If a student is already an active participant of a volunteer group (IE: children's charity group) will they still be able participate and /or be allowed some occaisonal early release for special events

02:03:03
Off campus activities not sponsored by the school are a bit difficult to manage on weekdays, but not impossible depending your proximity to campus. Families are personally responsible for transportation to and from IMSA's campus. Additionally, these activities would need to be managed alongside academic/extracurricular commitments at IMSA

02:03:22
Is it just this year that SAT is not required, or same for next year application requirements? i’m wondering if this is just related to covid or the SAT requirements changed for long time?

02:03:40
What foreign language classes are offered?

02:04:11
For student conduct and discipline, we do have a student discipline policy located in our student parent handbook: https://www.imsa.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2019-2020-Student-Parent-HandookPDF.pdf

02:04:11
I guess the volunteer activity would fall under the extra-curricular asked earlier

02:04:26
Also to add to the food allergies discussion - the menu is always posted ahead of time online, where you can view the dishes that are offered that day, their nutrition info, and any allergens that are part of the dish.

02:04:35
5 worlds languages are offered: Spanish (starting at level 2), German, mandarin Chinese, French and Russian

02:04:50
We offer Spanish (starting at Spanish 2) Russian, French, German, and Mandarin.

02:05:02
To see courses at IMSA: https://indd.adobe.com/view/0ab743cc-09d5-43fc-95a1-d7249c51587a

02:05:13
Can you take 2 languages?

02:05:43
What is the acceptance rate?

02:05:57
Yes you can take two languages.

02:06:13
You likely wouldn't be able to fit two languages in your schedule with the increased science and math requirements.

02:06:17

02:07:38
Do you have a band?

02:07:54
Band/Orchestra/Choir are available

02:08:20
You can take 2 languages, just not at the same time. You need to have 2 consecutive years of one language. If you don’t like the language you take your sophomore year, you could switch your junior year. Or if you want to try a new language your senior year, you can do that as well.

02:08:45
Do previous years of service hours count.?

02:08:57
Oh I see, that makes sense

02:09:21
Whoops, that was meant to be a direct message

02:09:34
There are two of each band, orchestra, and choirs - a lower level (typically sophomores) and an upper level (typically upperclassmen). There is also a symphony that meets before school and is comprised of the upper string group and top students from the upper band.

02:09:37
Service hours can be counted toward a graduation requirement starting the summer right after your acceptance. Not previous years but after you are admitted to IMSA

02:09:40
Only hours completed while you're an IMSA student count toward your graduation requirement, but we can add hours from freshman year to your transcript. That's helpful when applying for college and scholarships.

02:13:30
Are there any requirements like you need to take a world language class to graduate?

02:14:09
Here are our graduation requirements: https://indd.adobe.com/view/0ab743cc-09d5-43fc-95a1-d7249c51587a
